Modern Theatre (ISTD)

Modern dance is a rhythmic style which originated in America. It allows a dancer to explore the different qualities and styles necessary for performing to varying pieces of music, emphasizing creativity in choreography and performance. The style uses travelling steps, high kicks, leaps and turns, and will help to develop strength and flexibility. It thrives in dynamism, adapting and changing with the times. It can be fast and energetic, funky and stylish or soft and lyrical. It is often seen on the stages of musical productions and is known for its theatrical qualities and dancers skilled in Modern Theatre are some of the most versatile, creative and sought after.

Classes for school-age children: ISTD Pre Primary & Above

We offer classes in Modern Theatre from age 5/6 years old (Primary 1), mixing syllabus and free work to develop fitness, strength and performance whilst working towards exams. Class durations vary according to age and grade.

Modern Theatre for boys

Boys are welcome to study modern theatre with us at all levels and will be taught in mixed classes. If they would prefer a boys-only class, why not take a look at what our street moves class has to offer.

Modern Theatre Examinations

Students are encouraged to take their Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) Modern Theatre examinations when they have reached the required standard. Whilst not compulsory, we encourage students to enter for exams to mark their achievement and build their confidence.
