Lisa Taylor
Dance & Theatre Performance Dip. DDI MTB, DDI TB


At the age of 17 Lisa was accepted to train professionally at the prestigious Bird College of Performing Arts in London. During this time she trained as a professional dancer studying Classical Ballet, Pas De Deux, Modern, Tap, Jazz, Contemporary, Drama and Singing. After graduating with a Diploma in Dance, Lisa enjoyed gaining extra experience outside her dance life, appearing as an extra on BBC 1’s Holby City, BT advert and Dancer on BB2’s hair fashion event. After a recurring knee injury, Lisa moved back to Aberdeen where she established Taylor School of Dance in September 2003. Lisa now has 10 years of teaching experience, training all ages and abilities in Modern Theatre, Tap, Jazz, Musical Theatre and Contemporary. Lisa and all teachers at Taylor School of Dance attend regular courses throughout the year to ensure that standards are maintained and they are up to date with curriculum changes.

Karen Ross

Senior Teacher

Karen graduated from the Royal Academy of Dance teaching course in 2008, gaining RAD RTS after completing three years on the student teacher course at Preston Dance College. During her time there she also studied ISTD Modern, Tap and Jazz and then returned to Edinburgh to teach for two years before moving to Aberdeen to work for Taylor School of Dance. Karen has now been with us since January 2010, is our ballet specialist and manages our preschool, primary, junior and private nursery classes.

Paula Burnett


After gaining her Associate qualification in Highland Dance in 1995 Paula took a career break and has now returned to concentrate on Tap Dance. She has gained her ISTD DDI Tap qualification & continues to study with the ISTD to further her professional development. Paula has now been teaching at Taylor School of Dance since August 2013 as well as covering for other schools in and around Aberdeen.

Gwen Stevenson

Guest Teacher

Gwen began dancing with Levena Taylor in Inverurie. At the age of 13 she went into full time training at the Bush Davies Theatre Arts School in London. As a student she studied at the West Street School of Classical Ballet in Covent Garden and the Royal Academy of Dance. During this time she trained as a professional dancer and teacher. Gwen has over twenty years experience of teaching and training students of all ages and abilities. She has mentored teachers enrolled on the BA (Hons) degree programme for the RAD and has also taught the ISTD Diploma in Dance Education.

Maxine Hamilton

Teacher (Maternity Cover)

Maxine Hamilton BA, DipHE, RAD RTS Maxine pursued a career in dance by attending Ballet West, Scotland, achieving a BA Classical Ballet & Dance Performance with Distinction. Following her passion for teaching, Maxine then went on to complete a Diploma of Higher Education in Dance Education from The Royal Academy of Dance. Maxine has taught in schools in Aberdeen, London and Melbourne, Australia and has experience teaching Ballet, ISTD Modern, Contemporary, Hip Hop and Adult Fitness. She has enjoyed working on a variety of projects including short courses with YDance and Scottish Youth Theatre as movement director, choreographing for events, delivering educational movement workshops for Ausdance in Melbourne and her role as Director of Community Dance for Tempered Body Dance Theatre. Professional credits include: The Cone Gatherers (Scottish Tour), Swan Lake (Scottish Tour), Aladdin (Arts Centre Panto), Little Red Riding Hood (Arts Centre Panto) and White Night (Melbourne).

Helen Colleran

School Management

Helen joined Taylor School of Dance in January 2012 as our school administrator. She is responsible for the day to day running of the school, dealing with e-mail and telephone enquiries, updating the class lists, fees notice… and much much more.
